The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden V.K. Melkani has ordered shifting the lone tusker that is roaming about in Madukkarai and nearby areas to the forest elephant camp at Anamalai.

For the last few months the elephant has been roaming about on the Palakkad Road, entering agricultural lands close to the forest and causing damage to crops and property.

The led to protests from farmers and residents, following which the forest department tried to chase it into the forest, but in vain.

The Conservator of Forests here then wrote to the Principal Conservator of Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu, in March seeking permission to relocate the elephant to Anamalai.

On getting the nod from Mr. Melkani, forest personnel are preparing to capture and relocate the tusker.
