A man died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Thambikulama area in Habarana, along Palugaswewa to Galkadawala road this morning.
According to our correspondent, the wild elephant attacked the victim who was riding a motor cycle at the time, when he tried to defend a female motor cyclist from an elephant attack.
The deceased person is a father of two children from Demunnawa, Palugaswewa area.
The woman was admitted to Dambulla Hospital in critical condition.
Reports indicated that when wildlife officers arrived at the scene, a tense situation occurred between them and the residents.
