The Forest Department has begun an operation to capture two tuskers that were reportedly causing trouble in parts of Alur and Sakleshpur taluks.

A team of five tame elephants have reached a camp, temporarily set up at Magadihalli, for the operation. M.L. Manjunath, Deputy Conservator of Forests, said, “We have got permission to capture two tuskers, known for causing trouble in the area”.

Last week, a person died and three others were injured in elephant attacks. Following the incidents, farmers staged protests demanding immediate capture and relocation of the elephants.

“We have got the elephants and the staff required for the operation. The team comprises veterinarians and experts to tranquillise the elephants,” Mr. Manjunath said.

In 2014, the department captured 22 wild elephants and relocated them to elephant camps.
