A wandering elephant that struck fear in the heart of villagers is now safe back home in a nature reserve, Limpopo environmental authorities said on Wednesday.
A tracking team spotted the elephant between Makuya Park and Kruger National Park on Wednesday.
The elephant criss-crossed the streets of Makuya village on Monday and Tuesday, forcing residents to seek refuge in their houses.
Except for some damage to a fence, it did not cause any harm.
“The elephant was there for two days, but today it returned to the park,” said environmental affairs spokesperson Simon Matumi.
Makuaya Park is on the edge of the Kruger National Park, near the southern Pafuri Gate.
