A suspected ivory dealer has been arrested in Ruiru and 39 elephant tusks recovered from him.
Thomas Muhoro Ngatia, 35, was arrested in a dawn raid on Tuesday by officers from the special crime prevention unit.
Ruiru police boss Issack Thuranira said officers had established that ivory smuggling was going on inside the house at Githurai Kimbo.
The house is believed to be owned by Muhoro’s sister who lives in Holland.
Thuranira said the arrested man is believed to be a member of a transnational gang trading in ivory.
The suspect is being held at the Nairobi Area CID offices for interrogation.
