The elephant which was discovered stuck in the mud in a logging concession since last Thursday has finally succumbed.

L’éléphant qui a été découvert coincé dans la boue dans une concession forestière depuis jeudi dernier a finalement succombé.
Depuis le jeudi 14 août 2014, Monsieur Paulin, Responsable du bureau d’appui à l’environnement villageois à la CEB, avait alerté la Direction Provinciale des Eaux et Forêts de l’Ogooué-Lolo puis celle du Haut-Ogooué à propos d’un jeune éléphant coincé dans la boue au sein de leur concession forestière. L’éléphant fut déplacé par la CEB vers un petit ruisseau juste à côté pour lui permettre de se déshydrater et des fruits lui furent donnés.
A première vue sa patte arrière gauche était sérieusement endommagée, voir infectée et c’est ainsi qu’il s’était retrouvé immobile dans la boue et dans le ruisseau. Mais après examen par des vétérinaires du Parc de la Lékédi (Sodepal), l’éléphant était déjà en mauvaise santé dans la forêt, avant même qu’il ne soit découvert coincé dans la boue par le personnel de la CEB.
Malgré tous les efforts consentis pendant cinq jours par la CEB, la DP des Eaux et Forêts du Haut Ogooué dirigée par Mr Lucien Massoukou et Conservation Justice, l’éléphant succomba, probablement de fatigue.
