Looks like Kerala legislatures are beginning to have feelings for animals. After Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has spoken up for animals, loud and clear.

In the Assembly on Thursday, when Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan started speaking up voluminously for elephants, Speaker Sree Ramakrishnan congratulated him.

“Sir, there is no water in the forest…there is no food… then how will elephants live in the forest. Elephants stray into human habitats in search of food and water” –  as his talk looked nonstop, the Speaker asked him to make it brief.

“Jumbos have no representatives in the Assembly and that is why I am speaking from their side. People are doing pineapple and jackfruit cultivation on areas bordering forests. Sweet smell of ripe jack fruit and pineapple will definitely lure jumbos to these places. Now, what is the solution? We should ensure that the elephants get food and water inside the forest. For that, we’ll have to plant fruit trees in the forest. Forest Minister K Raju has guaranteed this,” he said.

Thus, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan won the heart of the speaker as well as animal lovers by presenting jumbo issue in a mammoth manner.
