A suspected poacher was trampled to death on Saturday night by elephants in Tsavo East National Reserve.
Kenya Wildlife Service officers and police recovered the badly mutilated body of the unknown poacher 120 kilometers from Ithumba KWS camp in Ikutha district. A bow and arrows were recovered at the spot where the illegal hunter was attacked by the beast.
Ikutha OCPD Kingford Nyaga said the body that is being preserved at Kitui county Referral Hospital mortuary was partly eaten by hyenas. He said security officers were led to the man’s body by a suspected accomplice known as Kilonzo Kang’uli.
“He led us to the place where we found the remains of his comrade in poaching,” Nyaga said on phone.
He said Kang’uli will be charged this week before the Mutomo court for venturing into a protected area with the sole motive of poaching.
