UDHAGAMANDALAM: A tusker was found dead in a private tea estate in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The tea estate falls under the Sigur range of forests in the Nilgiris north division.
According to forest officials, the tusker, aged around 12 years, might have died after an in-fight with another elephant. It sustained deep injuries on its chest and one of its legs.
“The two tusks are intact,” said K Soundarapandian, district forest officer (north division).
Sigur range is situated adjacent to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
