Tusker kills 3 at Udalguri (India)

Three people were killed and two seriously injured by a wild tusker in Udalguri district during the last 24 hours, causing panic among the villagers.

A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured by the pachyderm at Bamunjuli TE. More than 20 houses were destroyed at various places, namely No 4 Bhootiachang; Garuajhar, No 2 Bholatar etc, this week.

In the first incident, one Purki Jhora (45) was killed by the slatey grey giant at Jhorabasti near Garuajhar at 2 am on July 13 while the victim was sleeping in his house. In the second incident, a sleeping Deogi Munda (42) was killed by the tusker at No 1 Satghaoria village around 2.20 am today. In the third incident, one Bristi Boro (45) was attacked and seriously injured by the lone tusker at No 4 Bhootiachang around 3.30 am today. A critically injured Boro succumbed to his injuries around 11.30 am in a hospital.

The irate people today staged a dharna at Paneri demanding immediate action by the State Forest Department.
