Tusker ransacks banana plantation in Coimbatore (State of Tamil Nadu, India)

Coimbatore: A single tusker entered Kathirnaickenpalayam village in Coimbatore forest division on Tuesday night and ransacked banana plantation, houses and shops. 

According to S. Ramasubramaniam conservator of forest, a single male elephant had entered a banana plantation. On receiving information, forest department staff rushed to the spot and along with local farmers chased the pachyderm into the woods by bursting crackers.

The same elephant again stepped out of the reserve forest and moved to MGR Nagar in Kovanoor village, where it damaged the compound wall of a house and damaged a grocery shop shutter and gobbled up to 10 kg of rice stocked inside. The elephant was chased inside the forest by a team of anti-poaching watchers after two hours of struggle.
