Yet another man of Athagarh subdivision in Cuttack district was trampled to death by a male elephant on Friday morning. Consequently, locals continued staging road blockade at Balula on National Highway 55, disrupting traffic movement between Cuttack and Sambalpur.

The deceased was identified as Gopal Sahoo of Balisasan village. He was returning home after attending call of nature when a tusker came all of a sudden and trampled him to death.

Yesterday too, a man, identified as Nigam Sahoo of Shashanka village, had been killed by an elephant when he was watching paddy field. Locals had blocked the NH 55 demanding adequate compensation for family of the deceased person.

Police have reached the spot and are trying to placate the angry locals, sources said.

“The forest officials have failed to disperse the tusker from the area. Though we have been demanding measures for villagers’ safety, neither the Forest Department nor the district administration is listening to us. We want a permanent solution to the menace,” demanded agitating villagers.
