An eight-member wild elephant herd struck terror at Manimoola, near Bandadkukka, by straying into the farmland from the neighbouring Karnataka forests in the early hours on Saturday. They destroyed 15 coconut trees, around 320 plantains, and 25-odd areca nut trees.

Solar fencing and initiatives of the authorities concerned could not save the people settled in the border areas, some 50 km east from here, from the nightmarish experience.
