Forest Department staff successfully captured a tusker, which had been
causing trouble in Mudigere taluk in recent months, near Byrapura
village on Thursday evening.

The elephant, aged between 25 and 30 years, will be shifted to the
Nagarahole forest. Residents had been demanding its capture for
months.

The Forest Department staff reached Mudigere along with a special team
of tamed elephants on Wednesday. The operation began on Thursday
morning and was announced a success by evening. The elephant has been
tranquillized under expert supervision, sources said.

“The locals had demanded capture of this tusker as it was causing a
lot of damage in the area. Recently, the issue was raised at the
district review meetings,” said Chandranna, Deputy Conservator of
Forests.
