Wild tuskers destroy 11 houses in Surguja district (India)

A herd of wild elephants destroyed houses of ‘Pahadi Korwas’, a protected tribe of Chhattisgarh, in Surguja district of north Chhattisgarh. The incident took place in Kirkima village under Lundra block of Surguja district. According to information, a herd of wild elephants has been wandering in the area for last two weeks. The herd entered village Kirkima on Sunday night and destroyed 11 houses. The affected families have taken shelter in houses of other villagers and panchayat building of the village.

Sources informed that herd has been wandering in and around Gagoli, Kirkima, Nagam, Pasena, Rawai, Chitarpur, Sapnabhedia, Dumardeeh and Koylari villages of Kundra forest range for about two weeks.

Sources said that affected villages have threatened to launch an agitation if the problem is not redressed soon.
