A 55-year-old woman was trapped amidst an elephant herd near Thalavadi
in Erode district on Wednesday late night. Forest officials could not
start rescue operations due to bad light and also their attempt to
chase the jumbo herd away went in vain.
The woman has been identified as M Sadachi, 55, wife of Manoharan of
Arepalayam near Thalavadi. She was a housewife. She had gone to the
reserve forest along with four other women to collect wooden logs for
cooking on Wednesday afternoon.
As the group was returning home at 7pm the same evening, a elephant
herd surrounded the women. While four women managed to escape, Sadachi
got trapped, said forest officials.
